One advanced laser – four treatment modes
The multi-modality Tango Reflex combines multiple treatment platforms in a single advanced laser system; SLT for glaucoma, laser vitreolysis for floaters and capsulotomy and iridotomy treatments.
SLT for glaucoma
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is an effective first-line glaucoma therapy which eliminates the issues of patient compliance and medication side-effects.
A simple in-office procedure, SLT has been shown to lower IOP as effectively as medication, and to offer a consistent safety profile. Best of all, it is efficacious at every stage of the glaucoma treatment algorithm. On average, SLT achieves a reduction in IOP of 30% when used as a first-line option.
LFR for floaters
Laser Floater Removal (LFR) reduces or eliminates the debilitating visual disturbance caused by symptomatic floaters. It involves the use of a specially designed nano-pulsed YAG laser to vaporise floaters. Compared to its early clinical use in the 1980s, modern LFR provides more efficient and safer energy profiles. This creates reliable and repeatable outcomes with a low rate of complications and a high degree of patient satisfaction.

The Tango Reflex creates a capsulotomy opening that is precisely controlled, without causing damage to the lens, even if the lack of a ridge makes the capsule adhere to the optic. It cuts tissue more efficiently, and with less cumulative energy, to create a perfectly centred, precise capsulotomy. A precise capsulotomy is essential for IOLs that correct presbyopia through implantation in the posterior chamber’s capsular bag.
The Tango Reflex enables you to create a small, precise iridotomy to exacting precision, with a reduced risk of lens pitting. With refractive IOLs, the iridotomy aperture must be large enough to ensure a balanced aqueous flow, yet small enough so that no light is transmitted back to the pupil. The Tango Reflex enables you to create a precise size of the iridotomy, often in a single shot that uses lower energy than other YAG lasers.
For optimised visualisation
Reflex Technology comprises Ellex’s proprietary slit lamp illumination tower design, which converges the operator’s vision, the target illumination and the treatment beam onto the same optical path and focuses them onto the same optical plane. It offers optimised visualisation and illumination of the vitreous. This is of particular importance when aiming at vitreous strands or opacities, as it greatly minimises the potential for focusing errors. It also lowers the risk of damage to the natural lens or the retina.
The unique illumination mirror design, which briefly moves out of the laser pathway during firing, ensures that the laser beam is never obstructed. This minimises the risk of under-dosing or over-dosing the energy, ensuring that the desired therapeutic effect is achieved.
On-axis mode provides greater visualisation of floaters located in the middle and posterior vitreous. It offers the necessary spatial context, especially in relation to the retina. Red-reflex provides greater visual contrast in order to better visualise certain floaters.
Off-axis mode provides better visualisation of floaters located in the anterior vitreous. Better definition of the posterior capsule is also provided, as well as decreased glare in some situations, depending on the location of the floater(s).
Optimised for better viewing
The quality and design of Tango Reflex’s slit lamp optics are optimised for both anterior and posterior YAG laser procedures. In addition, next-generation filter technology provides the best colour-balance possible.
Anterior segment viewing
Featuring Galilean converging optics with a 16° stereoscopic angle, the Tango Reflex provides a more natural stereoscopic view combined with a small depth-of-field for precision focusing on structures in the anterior segment.
Posterior segment viewing
A patented illumination tower, which can be used in a coaxial position, provides better depth perception in the posterior segment for focusing on structures in the vitreous cavity.
SLT/YAG multi-modality laser

Designed for greater efficiency, Tango Reflex allows you to instantly switch between treatment modes at the touch of a button, while an intuitive touchscreen interface permits easy, quick adjustment of all treatment parameters.
Dual-colour aiming beam
In YAG mode, a green aiming beam provides greater contrast and thus improved visibility, especially when working in the vitreous. In SLT mode, a red aiming beam improves safety of focusing.
IOL friendly disruption
In YAG mode, Tango Reflex’s state-of-the-art YAG laser technology provides you with more consistent optical breakdown, which is ideal for meeting new challenges in posterior capsulotomy procedures. You and your patients will benefit from a lower risk of lens pitting, more efficient tissue cutting with fewer shots, delivery of less cumulative energy and faster procedures.
Fast & accurate
In order to deliver precise treatment and avoid the risk of side effects like IOL pitting, Tango Reflex’s continuously variable anterior and posterior offset control adjustment (from 0 to 500 microns) allows the most precise adjustment and provides optimum flexibility for all procedures. It is also the world’s fastest YAG laser, with a firing rate of 3 shots-per-second.
